Giving Back
One of the goals when we started Kula Athletic was to create a business that allowed us to contribute something back to the communities we operated in. This is important to us as we believe company profit should not be the key focus, it should be balanced alongside human rights, society and the environment. While we recognise we’re certainly not perfect in this regard and have a long way to go, we are donating $2 for every garment sold to UNICEF’s projects in Sri Lanka. Our manufacturing partner is based in Sri Lanka and UNICEF has been operating there since the 1950s. Their work has historically been one of humanitarian relief during the country’s civil war but as Sri Lanka transitioned into recovery and development, UNICEF was able to focus on the rights of children and child poverty. They now work on a number of programs aimed at improving education, healthcare and access to social welfare for children throughout the country. They are also playing a key part in the continued relief work from the devastating floods in May 2017 that affected an estimated 605,000 people and where 194 lost their lives. You can read more on UNICEF’s work in Sri Lanka on their website. We will provide updates on their work and also the other charities we partner with over time, every little bit counts :) You can also read more of our blog posts here or check out the latest Australian activewear and yoga clothes here.
